Patriotic Front Movement of Ghana (PAFMOG), a civil society organisation focusing on the political landscape has called on all political parties particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to disband all political vigilante groups or face them in court.
Political vigilantism has been a major security issue in the country with the advent of the formation of political parties as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.
The citizenry have expressed worry about the situation blaming the security agencies for failing to crush the groups.
Efforts by the police administration to stop their activities in the past 22 months, however, have all proven unsuccessful.
For instance, the General Secretary of the NDC, Asiedu Nketiah, had indicated that until the NPP disband all their vigilante groups, it would continue to engage their services.
But a statement from the group insisted that all political parties engaging the services of the group must urgently stop or meet them in court.
“The Patriotic Front Movement of Ghana (PAFMOG) with immediate effect is calling on all political parties especially the NPP and the NDC to disband all their vigilante groups to save our dear country Ghana from a possible war in the 2020 elections.
“We will soon go to court if the two major political parties refuse to disband vigilante groups and we are calling on every good citizen of this country to support PAFMOG.
“We also admonish the youth and the entire concerned citizens in the country, to rise up and fight the menace and the entire concerned citizens to arise and say NO to vigilantism,” the statement stressed. –ghanaweb.com
