Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Stonebwoy has appealed to the organisers of the Ghana Music Awards, Charterhouse to declare him as the winner of the 2019 Artiste of the Year award.
Stonebwoy made this call while delivering his speech after being awarded the Artiste of the Year for the 25th Anniversary of the Ghana Music Awards which took place on Saturday, June 1.
The two-time winner of the award said he was the rightful owner of the award in 2019 although no official announcement was made due to the abrupt end of the concert after a brawl between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale erupted.
In his appreciation speech after winning his second Artiste of the Year award, the “Ïnto the Future” crooner said he is convinced he has won the award three times as the 2019 award would have been given to him if the concert had not been cut short.
“Ever since I won the Artiste of the Year in 2015, I won it again in 2019 but we all saw what happened so I just want to plead with Charterhouse as honourable as they are to make sure that they announce the winner which I am confident that it was Stonebwoy for 2019 and then 2024.
“This is your beloved Stonebwoy, the Artiste of the Year for Ghana Music Awards three times,” he said.
Stonebwoy won the ultimate award for the night – the Artiste of the Year award at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
This makes it his second win of the award after he first picked it in 2015. The ‘Into the Future’ crooner contended the most prestigious award with Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Kuami Eugene, King Promise and Nacee for the year under review.
The awards is happening at the at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Center.
Stonebwoy’s exploit for the year under review have been remarkable as he grabbed five other awards at the 25th TGMA.
The Reggae/Dancehall artiste was the most decorated artiste for the night sending home the awards for the International Collaboration of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Reggae Dancehall artiste of the Year, Record of the Year and Album/EP of the year.
Stonebwoy shared the joyous moment with his friends and family on stage including his wife Dr Louisa Setakla and said he was lost for words.
“I just want to say thanks to the Most High God. Thank you mama wherever you are, thank you for showering your blessings upon your son. I wrote a long speech but I am lost for words,” the musician said.
Stonebwoy also appreciated the other artiste in the category for putting up a good fight and thanked his fans for their constant support.
