A couple at Anyako in the Volta Region has been arrested by the police for allegedly murdering a fishing-boat owner last Sunday in the town.
The suspects, Julius Sena, 26, and his 35-year-old wife, Gbeda Segbefia, were said to have subjected their victim, Kwaku Asempa, to severe beatings for daring to retrieve his missing vessel from them, resulting in his death later in a hospital.
The Volta Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nana Asomah, confirmed the arrest of the couple to the Ghanaian Times in Ho at the weekend.
He said that when the deceased realised that his boat got stolen; he traced it to the couple and reclaimed it from them.
ACP Asomah said this angered the couple, who assaulted him, adding that the victim reported the case to the police at Anyako, before he was sent to the Sacred Heart Hospital at Abor, where he was admitted, but died the next day.
The corpse has been sent to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy, and “for now, the suspects are being held for conspiracy and murder,” ACP Asomah indicated.
