Five students of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) have received awards from Biege Foundation for their exceptional academic performance and innovation in their various fields of studies.
The five are Antony Kweku, a second year Post Harvest Student; Abigail Padmore Mantel, second year Building Technology; Achin Godwin Tetteh, Second year Automotive Engineering, Fiano Theophilus, third year Purchasing and Supply and Sandra Kpesi,second year Secretary and Management student.
As part of the award, each of the students received an amount of three thousand Ghana cedis with investment packages to be managed by Biege Capital.
Presenting the awards, the coordinator for the Foundation,Ms Maria Dadzie indicated that the awards was part of their youth empowerment project dubbed “Youth Excellence League” aimed at recognising and awarding exceptional youth talents.
The Vice Chancellor of KTU, Professor Mrs. Smile Dzisi expressed appreciation to Biege Foundation for recognising excellence,innovation, talents and hardwork among students and for initiating such awards ceremony.
She revealed that her outfit had over the years developed strong links with industry to ensure the provision of highly skilled manpower to perform effectively at the job market.
She said KTU had constituted Faculty Advisory Boards with the involvement of experts from industry to study and fine tune to the University’s curricula to suit the dictates of industry.
Prof Dzisi also called on other corporate institutions to emulate the gesture shown by Biege Foundation and sponsor trade modules at the university’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development to enable students to train and equip themselves with employable skills.
“Education is a shared responsibility and therefore we call on corporate institutions such as Biege Foundation and others to assist the government by cooperating, collaborating and supporting KTU in training the teeming youth of this country,” she stated.
She congratulated the awardees and urged them to endeavour to avoid complacency and arrogance in other t succeeds in life.
