The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has widened its investigative net to probe the alleged involvement of National Security operatives in the diversion of 50 containers of palm oil valued at GH¢25.8 million.
In a statement issued on its official X platform, the OSP disclosed that the consignment — comprising fifty 20-foot containers — was declared as goods in transit to Burkina Faso but was unlawfully diverted into the local market without payment of the applicable duties and taxes.
The anti-corruption body estimates that the suspected scheme resulted in a tax loss of about GH¢10.5 million to the state.
According to the OSP, preliminary findings point to the involvement of some Customs officers, National Security operatives and clearing agents in what it described as a coordinated corrupt arrangement.
The case marks a significant development, as it places National Security operatives — whose core mandate includes safeguarding the state’s strategic and economic interests — under investigative scrutiny.
The Office indicated that the probe was triggered by an intelligence-led operation conducted in November 2025. While further operational details were not disclosed, investigations are said to be ongoing.
The alleged diversion has raised concerns over the integrity of Ghana’s transit trade regime, a system designed to facilitate the movement of goods to landlocked neighbouring countries under strict customs supervision.
Reaffirming its mandate, the OSP stressed its commitment to protecting the public purse and upholding integrity within public institutions as the investigation progresses.
