John Mahama stands tall to lead NDC -CLDG Director

The Executive Director for the Centre for Leadership and Democratic Governance (CLDG), Mr Isaac Kwasi Apatsea, says Mr John Dramani Mahama still stands tall among other cadres who qualify to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In his view, the former president has endeared himself to the hearts of many Ghanaians with his love for peace, and shown commitment to developing the country, which sets him above his peers.

He has, therefore, cautioned that it would politically disastrous for the NDC, as a political party, to change Mr Mahama in any election in the near future.

In a statement, the CLDG Director argued that ex-president John Mahama had made the NDC more attractive to floating voters, and strategically positioned the party to attract many young intellectuals.

“Due to certain strange reasons and beliefs, some of the elites in society and big-time businessmen and women shun the NDC, but now they are coming back due to the Mahama factor,” he said.

“The 2020 proved the mettle of Mr John Mahama as the party won [an] unprecedented 137 parliamentary seats to be at par with the ruling party, and also won the Speakership position, therefore, he is still credible,” he added.

Mr. Apatsea further posited that despite his defeat, Mr Mahama was still well connected to the grassroots members of the party, a situation, he said, made him (Mr Mahama) an ideal person.

He praised the former president for being affable and open to criticisms no matter how harsh it might be without being hard on journalists or putting their lives at risk.

“Ghanaians can now attest to the fact that the Mr Mahama raised the development bar during his tenure as president, and gave local journalists their freedom.”
