The management of Ghana Gas Company Limited has unveiled a literacy programme that seeks to improve reading and writing in public school pupils.
Dubbed ‘Turn a new page’, the programme will first be rolled out in it catchment area, Ellembelle District, before eventually rolled out in the entire region.
A total of 274,313 pupils from class one to six in the Ellembelle District would be the first beneficiaries of the programme.
Unveiling the programme at a press briefing, the Communication Manager of Ghana Gas, Ernest Owusu Bempah, said reading and writing appears to have become a challenge in the primary schools.
As a result, the Gas Company was offering a helping hand to raise the standard of reading and writing in public schools.
He said a total of 30,000 books would be distributed among the pupils.
He added that Ghana Gas was doing this because it felt it had to give back to society.
He further said in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), teachers, headmasters, chiefs and opinion leaders, the Turn a New Page programme would be successfully launched.
That apart, he said, the programme would identify brand ambassadors that resonated well with the programme to play roles.
The committee in charge of the programme, he said, would identify the brand ambassadors.
