The paramount chief of the Kwahu traditional area, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II has charged the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Afram Plains South, Mr George Ofori, to drastically deal with any person or group of persons who would disturb the peace of the area.
According to the paramount chief, chieftaincy conflicts in Kwahu is on the rise and that there is the need to put measures in place to stop it because it could retard the development of Kwahuman as a whole.
“Nananom are tired of the conflicts and it is our hope that we work together to bring peace and development to our people rather than conflicts. The peace of the people should always be paramount and any person who seeks to disrupt this peace should be dealt with accordingly”, he stressed.
The paramount chief of the Kwahu traditional area hinted that, as much as this is a chieftaincy issue, “you are also the DCE of the area as well as the head of security, anyone who tries to disturb the peace of the area should be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the country,” he said in a letter written on his behalf by the Registrar of the Kwahu Traditional Council, Mr. Samuel Tuffour and sent to the DCE.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II call on the DCE comes a few days after The Chronicle had reported the chieftaincy dispute at Kwahu Pitiko traditional area in Afram Plains South District. The paper had reported that thugs wielding guns, knives, sticks and other dangerous implements invaded the house of the Chief of Pitiko, Nana Frimpong Akoamire II in the evening of Monday around 9pm and subjected him to severe beatings.
Narrating his ordeal to The Chronicle at the time, Nana Frimpong Akoamire II hinted that he was in the palace with his queen-mother discussing some issues when the thugs entered around 9pm and attacked him. They stripped him half naked and paraded him on the streets.
Throwing light on the Pitiko chieftaincy situation, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II mentioned that a judgement was given at the Eastern Regionals House of Chiefs, nullifying the installation of the Pitiko Chief as well as the nomination of the other candidates. It was therefore instructed that the process be restarted.
He continued that Pitiko is under the Nifa Division headed by Obohene but Pitiko is also the Sumankwahene of Kwahu. This was an elevation given by the Kwahuhene and recognized as such just as Obohene was elevated as the Nifahene of Kwahu Traditional Area.
To ensure a peaceful installation, a meeting was held with Obohene with his elders present and the decisions taken are as follows;
1. The installation process is not a process that can be initiated by a section of the kingmakers, i.e. Werempehene. The head of the kingmakers is the Kontehene and he can perform his duty.
2. A date for the installation will be communicated by the Kontehene of Pitiko to the Kwahuhene and some communicated to Obohene.
3. That Kwahuhene will send a representation consisting chief from Abene and Obo to observe the process.
4. The candidate chosen will then go through the customary rite to be installed as a chief.
In the light of the above, DaasebreAkuamoah Agyapong II stated that, no person has therefore been denominated as the process has not even started. It is not the custom for Werempehene, who has not been to the palace for 7 years, alone to nominate a candidate. Pitiko does not have a Bamuhene.
Daasebre repeats that no process has begun for the installation of a new Pitiko chief who is also the Sumankwahene of Kwahu.
It should be noted that Pitiko is not an Odikro or a sub-chief to Obo. Therefore, per the customs of Kwahu, no one can become a chief of Pikiko unless and until he swears his oath to the Kwuhuhene at Abene.
