The Planning Department of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), supported by CUF/VNG International from Germany, has organised a sensitisation initiative for vulnerable groups in Kumasi on the COVID-19 pandemic, toward the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.
Mr. Michael Agyemang, Director of Planning at the Assembly, explained that the gesture was aimed at educating the vulnerable groups, including Persons Living With Disability (PLWD) and People Living With HIV/AIDS in Greater Kumasi, towards the observation of the COVID-19 protocols and the need to take the new vaccine in the fight against the virus, and to also assist them with food items.
He disclosed that the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in collaboration with the Planning Department has put measures in place within the Metropolis, including the Kejetia Terminals, to ensure that the coronavirus is contained.
Mr. Thomas Quayson, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Health Promotion Officer, advised the participants to take the new vaccine against the COVID-19, because there are no side effects to worry about, adding that they should not underestimate the observation of all recommended COVID-19 protocols.
According to him, taking the new vaccine and neglecting the protocols could still result in one contracting the virus, and urged the participants to perceive any individual as an infected person and keep the distance.
He stated that a static strategy would be adopted throughout the vaccination period and entreated every well-meaning Ghanaian, save pregnant women, to take part in the exercise because COVID-19 does not respect one’s status in society, be it rich or poor or religious denomination, hence, the need for everyone to take the adherence of the protocols as key to stop the spread.
Each participant took home five kilos of rice, two tins of mackerel, one litre of cooking oil, nose mask and a sanitiser.
