Gully Grank, a rising Cape Coast based Dancehall artist was on Sunday, 7th February, 2021 stabbed to death following a misunderstanding that led to an unfriendly confrontation.
The deceased, Emmanuel Aikins, who is popularly known in Cape Coast as Gully Grank, aged 24, was stabbed in the abdomen by suspect Bright Ellis, 27, who is now in police custody.
Information gathered by this paper revealed that the deceased, who has returned from a trip outside the country, visited Orange Beach Resort, a popular joint in Cape Coast.
An account given by an anonymous witness indicated that while at the joint, an argument erupted between the deceased and the suspect, over who was the best dancehall artist in Cape Coast.
He narrated that while the deceased claims to have no co-equal in the ancient city when it comes to Dancehall music, the suspect argued that Capoon, another Cape Coast artist was the best.
It is said that in the cause of the argument, the antagonists became emotionally charged, leading to the confrontation that resulted in the death of Gully Grank.
“In the course of the confrontation, Gully Grank pulled a knife to attack Bright Ellis, inflicting a cut on Ellis’ hand. Ellis then retaliated by collecting the knife with force and stabbing Gully Grank in the abdomen”, the anonymous witness recounted.
A situation report from the Regional Police Command confirmed the unfortunate incident and further indicated that the suspect had earlier reported at the police station with a cut on his left hand.
The Regional Police Command stated that: “The suspect, who also sustained a cut on his left hand, made a report at the station against the deceased and was issued with a Police Medical report form, to attend hospital for treatment”.
However, it continued that the suspect “was later arrested at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital and detained,” adding that the case was under investigation.
