Residents of Konkondu, a farming community near Aburi of the Eastern Region, have appealed to the Chief of Aburi Divisional Area, Otoobour Djan Kwasi II, to allow their Chief, Nana Obuobi Odi Ahenkan Ababio II, to perform the swearing-in ceremony.
According to the residents, they would gain a new paradigm shift of development if Otoobour Djan Kwasi II, who doubles as the Adontenhene of the Akuapem Traditional Area, considers the performance of this ceremonial ritual to satisfy the chieftaincy status of Nana Obuobi Odi Ahenkan Ababio II.
They explained that the longer it takes to allow the traditionally and customarily rites of the installed Chief could undermine the peace and unity of the area, hence their appeal to Otoobour Kwasi II.
To them, the ceremonial swearing-in of their Chief by to the Aburihene would go a long way to give traditional and chieftaincy legal backing to Nana Obuobi Odi Ahenkan Ababio II to be recognised as the substantive Chief of Konkondu community, who succeeded the late chief, Nana Obuobi Aduana II.
Taking this reporter through some lessons in the installation of a chief for the area, Mr. Kwasi Darko, an opinion leader, said there are accredited elders and the principal kingmakers of the three gates, namely Okem, Obutwe and Asong Abenna.
According to him, the three gates, traditionally and legally, constitute the Aduana Dynasty of the Konkondu community and had followed due process for the selection and installation of Nana Ababio II, who comes from the Okem Gate.
“We want to state that per rotation succession arrangement of the Aduana Dynasty it means that it is the turn of Okem Gate to select a person to be installed the chief of the area to succeed the late chief of the area,” he stressed.
He continued: “So the installation of Nana Obuobi Odi Ahenkan Ababio II as the Chief for the area by the elders and kingmakers is absolutely in the right direction, which should not be challenged.”
Evidently, when an eligible person within the entitled gate is presented, he is acceptable by all gates as the entire Aduana dynasty Osiahene Aduanahene, and because it is rotational, it moves from one gate to the other.
The citizens made this statement with corroboration of the information from the Abusuapanin, Okyere Opare, when some senior journalists visited the area on a fact-findins mission recently.
On his part, Nana Obuobi Odi Ahenkan Ababio II reiterated that he was legally, traditionally and customarily installed chief by the accredited heads and principal kingmakers, elders and heads of the family to ascend the throne to succeed the late chief, Nana Obuobi Aduama II, after his demise.
He noted that his installation was in accordance with the traditions, norms and customs of the Aduana Dynasty of Konkondu, under the Chieftaincy Act, and further called on all and sundry to support him to develop the area.
