A Member of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, Most Rev Titus K Awotwi Pratt, has categorically stated that the National Cathedral being built in Accra is not for any politician or political party.
The Cathedral, he stressed, was an embodiment where all Christians of diverse denominations across the country would meet and worship, and, therefore, has no political correlations.
Most Rev Awotwi Pratt made this known in Cape Coast during a meeting between ecumenical bodies in the Central Region and the National Cathedral Secretariat.
Though he acknowledged the fact that the National Cathedral was the brain child of the President, he refuted assertions that the state was fully sponsoring the construction of the edifice
He, has therefore, charged Christians from all denominations to embrace the yet-to-be completed project as their bona fide property, and contribute meaningfully towards its construction.
“Ownership of the Cathedral is not vested in the government or any political party. The Board of Trustees is spearheading fundraising activities to generate funds for the project,” he said.
Capacity of the Cathedral
Rev Awotwi Pratt explained that the Cathedral would have a 5,000-seating capacity auditorium, expandable to 15,000, a Bible Museum, and garden.
The Bible Museum, he explained, would be the first of its kind in Africa, and “will feature the formation of the Bible, its history, and the role of Africans in the Bible.”
According to him, plants mentioned in the Bible that could be cultivated in Ghana would be planted in the vegetation garden, which would serve as a vineyard of the Cathedral.
Rev Ebenezer Saka Ameyaw, Church Relations Manager of the National Cathedral Secretariat, said the Secretariat deemed it necessary to explain the concept to all stakeholders.
He added: “The National Cathedral is owned by the churches, therefore, they must be duly informed to understand what the Cathedral stands for.”
The engagement with the local council of churches, he further explained, would enable the Secretariat to clear all forms of doubts and misconceptions about the construction of the Cathedral.
Rev Saka Ameyaw expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meet with the ecumenical bodies in the Central Region, and thanked the organisers for a wonderful organisation.
The meeting was chaired by Apostle Seth Opare Osae, Central Regional Chairman of the ecumenical bodies, and was attended by church leaders and clergymen.
