The aggrieved youth chanting war songs
The Concerned Youth of Pramso in the Bosomtwe District of Ashanti region has appealed to the AsanteheneOtumfuo Osei Tutu II to intervene and stop Nana Gyampatua II, Chief of Pramso, from selling their farm lands to sand winners.
According to the youth, Nana Gyampatua II, is fond of selling their farm lands and in the process destroying cocoa farms, palm oil, cassava and plantain farms of the residents.
Mr. Yaw Wusu, the spokesperson of the youth, said at a press conference that, since the Chief was sworn in, all ongoing and uncompleted projects initiated by his predecessor have come to a standstill without any attempt by the chief to complete them.
He stated that the Chief has been selling farm lands belonging to citizens in the community, with the excuse that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has tasked him to take any available piece of land for development.
The unwarranted sales, the spokesman said, pushed owners of the said farm lands into unbearable hardships, since their source of livelihood had forcibly been taken away from them without any tangible reason.
Mr. Yaw Wusu revealed that most of the affected residents have now resorted to buying and selling foodstuffs in Kumasi to feed their families and pleaded with Otumfuo to intervene to avert anything untoward.
Reacting to the allegations, Nana Gyampatuah Il, confirmed that Kofi Job, a road contractor is winning sand from the area but those who were farming on the said lands were fully compensated by the contractor.
According to him, it was a request made by the District Chief Executives for the area and the Ashanti Regional Minister who pleaded for the release of the land through Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for the construction of theKuntenase to Atonsu road.
He stressed that some of the lands in question are reserved for royals but his predecessor unfortunately gave out the land to the complainants, who have been fully compensated. Mr. Abraham NomohGyedi of Kofi Job Construction also confirmed full payments of compensation directly to the owners of the farm lands atAbrankese and Pramso areas.
