The management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has began training of its staff on preventive measures on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which spans the period July 14 to 27 2020.
The Metro Coordinating Director, Mr. Akuamoah Boaten,g indicated that the workplace has become the breeding ground for the spread of the novel Coronavirus, hence management of the KMA has taught it wise to organise the training to educate and sensitise the staff on the health risks associated with the virus.
He added that the Assembly had started the rotational system of staff so as to decongest the office, and also to allow some to work from home to enhance the preventive measures against the COVID-19.
The facilitator of the training, Dr. Ernest Kwarko, who is also the Technical Advisor to the Metro COVID-19 Team, stated that such training will go a long way to enhance the fight against the Coronavirus, and, therefore, saw it as a feather in the cap of the Assembly for prioritising the health needs of its staff.
He reiterated that this move by the Assembly would reawaken the staff to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols, and also prevent the Assembly from shutting down like the Ministry of Finance, among others.
The Environmental Health and the HR units have been tasked with the responsibility of the running of the training, which includes departments, unit, sections and all sub-metro councils.
The Metro Guard Unit was presented with eight boxes of hand sanitisers and 400 re-useable face masks to protect themselves as they interact with the public daily.
