A GH¢2.8 million 500 seating capacity Astro Turf (artificial turf) is to be constructed by the National Youth Authority (NYA) at Mamponteng in the Kwabre East Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
Sponsored by the NYA and expected to be completed within five months, the project would also serve as a youth resource center and a converging point for all sporting and youth activities in the Kwabre East Constituency.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NYA, Mr. Sylvester Tetteh, said at the ground breaking ceremony at Mamponteng last week Thursday, that the construction of these facilities across the country was the Authority’s strategy to harness every hidden talent in the youth of this country.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre East Constituency, Ms. Francisca Oteng Mensah, who performed the ground breaking ceremony for the commencement of the project, stated that the project was part of her efforts and support by the government to harness and promote talents of the youth in the Kwabre area.
The MP, who is also the Board Chairperson of the National Youth Authority (NYA), said funds are available to complete the project in five months’ time, and urged the youth of the area to make maximum use of the facility when completed.
The Queenmother of Mamponteng, Nana Kyerew Akenteng II, was hopeful that the youth of Mamponteng and its environs would take advantage of the facility when it is ready, to enhance youth development programmes in the area.
