The chief of Atweasin in the Akuapim South District of the Eastern Region, Nana Otutu Obrempong Kumah ll, has donated assorted sanitary and food items to facilitate the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in his traditional area.
The items included veronica buckets, liquid soaps, boxes of tissues, hand sanitizers, bags of rice, bags of gari and dustbins running into thousands of Ghana Cedis.
Nana Otutu Obrempong Kumah II, made the presentation to the Assembly man of Aburi West, Daniel Asiamah for an onward distribution at a brief ceremony at Atweasin –Aburi.
The chief of Atweasin during the presentation noted that it requires the collective efforts of all Ghanaians to combat the global pandemic.According to him, despite the quantity, the items were geared towards protecting the public against the spread of the virus in the area as everyone prays for God’s mercy in this difficult period.
He called on all to adhere to the President’s directives of social distancing, the ban on large gatherings as well as regular washing of hands under running water.
Obrempong Kumah ll, urged other chiefs to continue to play lead roles in educating the people about the disease in their respective communities.
The Assembly man for Aburi West, Daniel Asiamah, who received the items highly commended the chief for the gesture, saying it was the first since the advent of the pandemic.
The Aburi West Assemblyman assured the chief of giving the items particularly the food to the very people who need them and encouraged the people to desist from politicising the situation since the covid-19 is no respecter of person.
“I am ensuring you that children and young people, especially the most vulnerable are going to benefit from this kind gesture”, he assured.
Residents of the area have heaped praises on the chief for the timely intervention because they can neither go to Accra nor Accra people coming to the area for business, a situation that has made living extremely difficult.
They explained that, the partial lockdown has negatively affected their socio-economic drive, hence the items donated by the chief would go a long way to alleviate some of their plights.
