President Akufo-Addo has explained that the reason why his government decided to extend the partial lockdown in Accra, Kasoa and Greater Kumasi is that 77 out of the 15, 000 samples collected within these regions have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Broadcasting to the nation for the 6th time a while ago, on measures being taken to stop the spread of the coronavirus, he indicated that albeit the encouraging outcome of the test, the government would still wait for a clearer picture on the fight.
Giving some statistics, President Akufo-Addo indicated that 37,405 samples have been taken by health personnel during the two weeks partial lockdown, of which 31,933 are in Accra and 5,472 are in Kumasi.
He added that as of yesterday, 14,611 contacts of the samples collected have been tested for the virus in Accra and Kumasi. For Accra, he said 11,308 contacts were tested and 52 (o.46%), were found to be positive. In Kumasi, 3,303 contacts have been tested, and 25 (0.76%) were found to be positive
In total, the President said 77 positive cases were recorded in Accra and Kumasi, representing 0.53% of the 14,611 tested.”Whilst the results are encouraging, in suggesting a limited number of positives and community spread, we expect to be able to test some 10,000 additional samples in the coming week to give us a clearer picture to enable us take a decision on the way forward,” the President said.
