The Ashanti regional Health Directorate says as at April 5, 2020 it has collected 1,836 samples of coronavirus suspects for testing.
Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, the regional Director of Ghana Health Services revealed this at press briefing in Kumasi to update the media and the general public on the COVID-19 situation in the region. He explained that the first confirmed case of COVID19 in the region was reported on the March 13, 2020, adding that the region has now recorded 12 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
He stated that eight (8) of the cases have a history of recent travel from affected countries and that three (3) out of the number are on admission and are all doing well.
He disclosed that 389 contacts including 58 contacts in Juaso, related to a case reported in Accra have been made. Two of the contacts tested positive. He indicated that the GHS was able to cumulate the samples through routine surveillance.
