VNG International, the International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG), development partner of KMA, has presented a number of coronavirus relief items to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to assist in the fight against COVID-19.
They include 100 Veronica buckets, 400 hand sanitisers, 200 liquid soap, 100 paper towels and 200 Nose masks.
Dr. Prince Aboagye Anokye, a local representative presented the items on behalf of VNG International at the KMA premises on Thursday.
Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, MCE of KMA received the items and thanked VNG International for their support.
The Mayor said KMA and VNG International are currently implementing a five year deals project aimed at helping Kumasi achieve SDG 11.
According to him, based on several stakeholder engagements conducted in 2017, the VNG International and the KMA have settled on two themes for the five year project in the area of Decongestion of the City Centre and making satellite markets functional as well as improving two slum areas of Dagomba Line and Moshie Zongo.
He disclosed that VNG International has partnered the City of Kumasi in a number of development programs since 2012 and that between 2012 and 2016, KMA was part of pilot cities in Ghana implementing the Local Government Capacity Programme which aimed at improving sanitation service delivery.
