The India High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Birender Singh Yadav, has called on the new Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, in a move to strengthen the existing relationship between the peoples of the two countries.
The meeting, last Wednesday, also enabled the two political heads to explore avenues for the economic and cultural development of the two countries.
The Indian Envoy and the Regional Minister also discussed prospects in the energy sector and how both countries could be of help in tackling the challenges.

- E. Birender Singh Yadav said the India government would make sure that the Ashanti Region benefits from the numerous available exchange programmes.
India, according to the High Commissioner, wants to explore how they can work to promote culture and traditions with the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Osei Mensah announced plans to stage a trade exhibition programme between Ghana and India, as an avenue to open the two countries to the many economic and investment opportunities.
In a related development, the executives of the Ashanti Region Chapter of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), led by the Regional President, Gabriel Kofi Akpah, have paid a courtesy call on the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah to congratulate him on his appointment, and to also discuss a solid foundation for the smooth take-off of the government’s free education programme.
The students’ body also briefed the Minister on their activities to support education in the various villages.
The Regional Minister encouraged the students to be ready to lead the transformational agenda of the government, while also leading efforts to restoring national pride and patriotism among Ghanaians, particularly, the youth.
Mr. Osei-Mensah emphasised the need to empower the youth to play their roles in the development of the nation.
According to the Minister, it was necessary that “we make effective and efficient utilisation of time for the progress of our people,” for the country to prosper.
