The police have arrested four masked men suspected to be of Fulani extraction for killing two farmers in two suburbs of Agogo in the Ashanti-Akyem district of the Ashanti Region, ACP Ampofo Duku, Deputy Ashanti regional Police Commander has announced.
According to the Deputy Ashanti regional Police Commander, the deceased, 63 year-old Kwadwo Amponsah and 25 year-old Abi Shaibu were both shot on their farms.
The robbers were said to have shot and killed Kwadwo Amponsah because the deceased was alleged to have witnessed the attack of a taxi cab with registration number GE 1858-11on the main Ananekrom-Dunkusen road by the robbers.
The robbers were said to have robbed the occupants on board the vehicle of their personal belongings: including phones, wrist watches, cash and jewellery, among others.
Kwadwo Amponsah, who was by then on his cassava farm heard the shout for help from the traumatized passengers on board the taxi cab and drew nearer to catch a glimpse of what was going on.
Unfortunately, the robbers spotted him and shot at him. Though he managed to get home, he was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but he was declared dead on arrival.
ACP Ampofo Duku further indicated that after the masked gunmen had shot the 63 year-old farmer, they proceeded to the Nsonyameye village and attacked one Abi Shaibu, 25, who was working on his farm. He was shot in the right arm and ribs, killing him instantly.
The police Chief also said, on September 9, 2016, at about 9:00am the robbers attacked a Hyundai mini bus with registration number ER 2540-10 on the Kowireso Bebome road.
According to him, they fired through the back windscreen of the vehicle and robbed the occupants on board the vehicle of their monies and mobile phones, after which they fled into the bush and later sought refuge at Donkorkrom in the Eastern Region.
ACP Duku, disclosed that on October 20, 2016, intelligence gathering led to the arrest of suspects Umaru Jinji and Denji Buyor at their hideout at Donkorkrom.
He said an identification parade supervised by ASP Mr. Azugu was carried out by the police at Agogo on the October 25, 2016, at about 10:00am, during which suspects Umaru Jinji and Denji Buyor were paraded together with six other Fulanis.
He said seven witnesses on board the urban bus who were robbed on September 9, 2016, were able to identify suspects Denji Buyor, 29 and Umaru Jinji, 19.
