Appointment of Black Stars captain should be the sole prerogative of the coach - Frimpong Manso

Former Black Stars defender and current Nkoranza Warriors head coach, Frimpong Manso has opined selection of captains for the Black Stars should be done solely by the head coach of the team.

According to him, Liverpool appointed Virgil van Dijk as a captain whilst old players were there without seniority or how long being with the team.

Speaking on one Ashanti Region-based Wontumi Radio and TV Nationwide Sports, he claimed that it should be the sole prerogative of the coach in terms of appointing a captain.

Talking about his time at Black Stars captaincy position issues he said, "The issue of the captaincy was there and there was a pain because we were all shocked after the team's meeting because everyone was expecting an announcement which will favour them that's why I said it should be appointed by the coaches because he handles the team.

"If the coach notices that this player can help him on the pitch in terms of sending messages and encouraging the players when things are not going on right then he can decide to appoint.

"Many players were at Liverpool before Virgil van Dijk arrived but the captain was given to him.
