Thursday’s arrest brings the number of Burkinabe who have been arrested since April after the border closure to 141.
The Upper West Region Public Affairs officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul-Mumin Seidu told 3news.com, the six were onboard a minibus with registration number BA 2761-14.
He said they had the intention of using alternative route to Wa in order to swerve the vigilant Immigration Officials on duty at the Babile inland checkpoint but they were unsuccessful. They were apprehended at Nadowli police checkpoint.
“They were screened by the health personnel and subsequently sent to the Hamile sector command where they were handed over to the Burkina Faso authorities on the other side of the border,” Abdul-Mumin Seidu said.
It is not clear why the people are escaping from Burkina Faso which is under curfew.
Meanwhile, he said the Ghana Immigration Service has never received repatriated Ghanaians from their Burkina Faso counterparts since both countries closed their boders.
