Akuffo Addo highlighted the numerous initiatives his government have planned and called for more time to ensure their implementation.
The ruling government laid out a number of plans in their manifesto for the 2016 elections including plans to establishing a special unit at the Ministry to develop and promote sporting disciplines other than football, and to concentrate on the revival of school sports.
The president who was speaking at the maiden edition of the Media Encounter with the President said concrete results would begin to show after about a year.
“A lot has been said by the Minister of Sports and he has made a lot of pronouncements on where our mind is in terms of the development of sports.
“We have said we are going to de-emphasize the emphasis of football and bring the other sports into the basket of consideration, so the policies are being rolled out,” he said.
One of the problems of holding this kind of encounter after six months is that most of these are initiatives and not about concrete achievements.
We are building a foundation of our policies and programs. If this question is posed to me in 18 months time I would be in a much better position to answer.”
The Sports Ministry has banned the use of the pitches of the country’s stadia for non sporting related activities.
