Former Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah has signed a contract extension as head coach of the Sudan national team, following successful negotiations with the Sudanese Football Association on Thursday in Khartoum.
The new deal will keep Appiah in charge of the Falcons of Jediane until 2028, rewarding the progress made since his appointment in September 2023. His mandate has focused on rebuilding the national side, a task he has executed with notable impact.
Under his leadership, Sudan secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, marking their return to the tournament. Their success included an important victory over Ghana during the qualifying campaign, a result which strengthened the team’s growing confidence.
The extension reflects the federation’s renewed belief in Appiah’s long-term project, particularly as Sudan seek to re-establish themselves among the continent’s competitive national teams.
Sudan have been drawn in Group E for next year’s AFCON, where they will face Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso. The tournament begins on December 21 and will run until January 18.
Appiah, who previously led Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and returned for a second spell from 2017 to 2019, continues to build a promising coaching chapter abroad.
