Bibiani GoldStars head coach Frimpong Manso has admitted that his side must improve, especially in midfield, following their 1-0 Super Cup (Champion of Champions) defeat to Asante Kotoko at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani.
Kotoko’s new signing Musah Hamzata struck the only goal of the game from a set piece just before the 70th minute, silencing the home fans and handing the Porcupine Warriors revenge after their 2-1 defeat to GoldStars in the recent GHALCA Top 4 tournament.
Reflecting on the loss, Manso expressed concern over his team’s lack of compactness in midfield.
“I think now every game that we play, or we want to play, is going to be like thisâvery difficult. Because at this time of the season, every team is very strong,” he said.
“You could see in this game, the first half was very physical. Both sides were not putting the ball on the turf. It was one end to the other. For me, in the first half, it wasn’t all that good football.
But at least in the second half, in terms of possession, I think it improved to some extent. So it means we need to look at that area well.
“At the highest level, you cannot be losing possession like that, especially in midfield. Those are some of the things we have to work on going forward.”
The clash served as the official curtain-raiser for the new Ghana football season. Both sides now turn their attention to continental action, with GoldStars set to feature in the CAF Champions League while Kotoko represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup.
