Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has unequivocally stated that Asamoah Gyan remains national team captain.
There are circling reports that Appiah has installed a new Black Stars captain.
New Inter Milan midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is reported to have been appointed as the new leader of the team.
But in a chat with the media at the launch of the J. A Kufour Cup, Appiah was explicit in squashing those reports.
''We have no new captain. Asamoah Gyan remains the captain of the Black Stars. Until we announce that we have appointed a new captain, it’s unnecessary for people to speculate that we have a new captain,'' the ex-Ghana international said.
''This captaincy issue keeps coming out and brings troubles in the team. We want to have our peace. Ghanaians should support the team and stop bringing up issues that do not exist.''
Appiah is expected to announce the squad for their next 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier qualifier against Kenya on 8 September, 2018 in Nairobi.
