Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah says he's unperturbed by the absence of any Ghanaian in the final three shortlist for the African footballer of the year award.
On Monday, the Confederations of Africa Football (CAF) announced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah as the three players who will battle it out for the 2017 African player of the year award.
Coach Kwesi Appiah said he was not worried by the absence of any of his players and believes in the near future some players will make the shortlist and probably win the award.
The former Al Khartoum Watani trainer insisted that the three players that made the cut fully deserved to in there.
“Not at all, am not worried, I always say we are still building the team, yes we have some young and good players in the team,” he said during an interview with the media.
“It is obvious the three players all deserve to be nominated.”
Two year ago, West Ham and Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew made the shortlist but placed third behind Augbamayeng and Yaya Toure.
Meanwhile, this year, Christian Atsu of Newcastle United and Athletico Madrid's Thomas Partey could only make the thirty man list.
The last Ghanaian to win the African footballer of the year award was former Ghana Captain Abedi Ayew Pele in 1993.
