President of Division One League side Phar Rangers FC, Nana Yaw Amponsah, emerged the 2017 Sports Personality of the prestigious 40Under40Awards held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
Amponsah claimed the award following his astronomic rise in football and his exploits as sports lawyer, FIFA intermediary and president of the model club, Phar Rangers.
39 other entrepreneurs were also awarded at the 40Under40Awards for their distinguished and excellent roles in their various fields of business.
The 34-year old young administrator beat off stiff competition for the sports award, taking home a trophy and a medal.
In a citation, Amponsah’s tremendous contribution in football development and creating employment for many Ghanaian youth were acknowledged as well as his efforts in making Phar Rangers FC a model club in Ghana in just their first season in the DOL.
With a Master’s Degree (LLM) in Sports Law and Practice from the Leicester De Montfort University U.K, Amponsah is highly recognised for facilitating the transfers of several Ghanaian players abroad in the last decade including Joel Fameyeh, and Francis Narh, all from Ghana to Europe as well as Awal Mohammed and Nathaniel Asamoah to Morocco and Latif Abubakar Egypt.
Elated and honoured, Amponsah - with over ten years working experience in football and sports administration had this to say after receiving the award.
“It is a beautiful feeling to know your hard work is being noticed. It’s been over a decade of dedication to football and everything right about its growth.
“I’m happy about today’s recognition and award. It is a silent reminder of why we must all contribute our quota to making the game we all love better”.
Many have tipped the young and knowledgeable young man to be a perfect successor of Kwesi Nyantakyi as GFA President following the latter’s decision not to contest again in 2019.
