Rangers FC striker Joe Dodoo says the Scottish Premier League table does not reflect the true nature of the league following their 3-0 thumping of Aberdeen at the Pittodrie on Sunday.
A brace from veteran striker Kenny Miller and brilliant strike from English-born Ghanaian forward Joe Dodoo condemned the Dons at their stomping ground.
The win sees Pedro Caixinha’s side sit third in the league, nine points behind the Dons with just six games left of the season.
However, frontman Dodoo reckons Gers and Aberdeen really ought to trade places based on quality.
The 21-year-old said: “We weren’t surprised we beat them because we are better than them, no matter what anyone says.
“Sometimes we aren’t winning games but we do have more than them. If we exploit the right spaces, do the right things and make the right decisions, play as a team and continue to work hard, we should be up there.
“I am happy because we got the three points and we hadn’t won for a while. It was brilliant to come on and score, but the most important thing was to get the points on the board.
“I could see what needed to change at that time of the game because we were really narrow and playing into their hands a little bit more.
“All I had to do was go wide and stay wide. If I made the pitch as big as possible, our midfielders could get on the ball and start moving the ball.
“That then would make it harder for them to get the ball because the gaps between us would become so big they couldn’t press us as much as they were.
“I knew I had to exploit the spaces and luckily we did that and within a five-minute spell we beat them.”
Dodoo will hope to start Saturday’s clash with Partick Thistle after giving Caixinha food for thought by setting up Miller for his second goal and then netting himself in the late surge against Aberdeen.
Meanwhile, Michael O’Halloran blew his chance to impress a clutch of interested clubs after failing to turn up for a Gers second-string game.
In a move that has left him fighting for his Ibrox future, the winger went AWOL from Monday’s development clash with Hearts at Forthbank, offering no excuse to under-20s boss Graeme Murty.
O’Halloran is now facing disciplinary action and did not train with the first-team squad yesterday. But he also left scouts from Huddersfield, Bolton, Derby and Southend disappointed at his no-show.
The 26-year-old has struggled to make an impact since moving to Ibrox in a £500,000 deal from St Johnstone in February 2016.
Despite penning a four-and-a-half-year deal, O’Halloran has a job on his hands to convince Caixinha he can be an asset and could be among the players the Portuguese tries to move on in the summer.
He has featured in 24 games this season, but has struggled to nail down a regular slot in the first XI. His last start saw him last just five minutes before he was sent off against Motherwell on January 28.
