Accra, Dec. 3, GNA - The Elta-King Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, has called on benevolent individuals and organisations to collaborate with them in screening the health status of the less privileged in our communities.
Mr Kingsley Agbeko, the Programmes Director of Elta-King Foundation, made the call when the organisation embarked on a health screening exercise and donation to the people of Gorm, a suburb of Ada Foah in the Greater Accra Region.
The effort, undertaken over the weekend, was done in partnership with the Ghana Pentecostal Council of Churches.
Mr Agbeko said the call has become necessary because majority of the 900 people screened during the exercise were diagnosed of high blood pressure (BP), high levels of sugar, and high levels of malaria among others.
He said his organisation often embarks on such exercises depending on when they receive sufficient donations such as medicines, cash, used clothing and medical equipment from benevolent members of the public, hence the call on corporate bodies and other benevolent groups to join the effort.
He said the Foundation embarked on the mission to screen for hepatitis B, malaria, sugar level and eye sights to give opportunity to the less privileged with no funds to access free medical screening and know their health status.
Mr Agbeko said they discovered during the screening that many of the townsfolk have not visited any health facilities for health screening for the past five to six years and that they were mostly complaining of headache and fatigue among other symptoms.
He said it is his intension to extend the exercise to other deprived communities in the country adding that if they get more support, it would help to achieve their goals and touch more lives.
The Foundation also donated used clothing and shoes to the people, Mr Agbeko said, adding that this would hopefully help them to celebrate the Christmas in new outfits and put smiles on the faces of many.
Mr George Sey, a Physician Assistant and a Member of the Elta-King Foundation, said some of the patients came with their Blood Pressure as high as 160/90 while others came with signs of hypertensive emergencies.
He called on the public to attend to their medications and visit the health facilities whenever they encounter any health challenge.
Mr David Tetteh Paa Nii Numo, the Assemblyman for Kpono Abossey (Selorm-Agorkpo) Electoral Area, commended the Foundation for the sacrifices they made to ensure that the community benefited from the screening.
He called for God’s blessings on them to enable them carry out more of such exercises in many other communities.
