Accra, Nov. 12, GNA - Vodafone Healthline, a health promotion television programme, has brought smiles on the faces of five-year old Sarah Botchway and her foster parents, after undergoing a surgery to correct her eye tumour.
A statement from Vodafone Ghana to the Ghana News Agency said Sarah was born with a tumour on the left eye and as part of the programme, Vodafone arranged and paid the full cost involved for her to undergo surgery to correct the anomaly.
According to the statement, Sarah’s condition was unbearable for her foster mother Madam Dede Hammond and the correction brought a relief to the entire family.
She was quoted as saying: “The stigma associated with Sarah’s condition was so unbearable for her mother; she abandoned her at an early age. After she left, we took Sarah in as our daughter and have gone to great lengths to get her medical support, but we are financially challenged.
“We are therefore happy and grateful that Vodafone Healthline came to our rescue. God richly bless Vodafone for their support and for especially taking away the stigma that was associated with my daughter’s condition. Thank you, Vodafone Ghana.’’
Vodafone Ghana, through the Healthline programme, according to the statement, supported and transformed the lives of hundreds of Ghanaians who went through different surgeries for life-threatening conditions including; hydrocephalus, cataract, hernia, fibroids and heart-related problems.
It also educated and demystified various myths on health related conditions.
“Vodafone Healthline is shown on UTV on Mondays at the 2100 hours, TV3 on Sundays at the 1500 hours, Adom TV on Saturdays at 2030 hours, TV Africa on Saturday at 1730 hours and on Family TV on Sundays at 2000 hours.”
