Nov 12, GNA - Mr. Joseph Oko Adokwei, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lilies Field Academy has sponsored 110 children in Nurseries, Basic and Senior High schools in the Osu Kinkawe Communities.
He said although there were over 200 of them that needed sponsorship they were able to grant ther 110 for the meantime.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra Mr Adokei said “I have discovered that many children in my communities do not go to school because their parents cannot afford to pay school fees, or others lost their parents and are staying with their relatives and when their friends are in school they are roaming about. So I thought it wise to build this foundation to help my communities”.
He added that apart from supporting the children to harness their educational potentials, he also supported children with special talents dancing, music and sports.
“The children go to school on week days and come to Lilies of the field Academy for the supervision of homework, enrichment of activities until dinner time. When a child is intelligent I take them to very good schools to achieve their educational goals. Many children stay on in the evenings and learn traditional African dancing and drumming.
“Some of these children have performed throughout the Greater Accra regional festivals, competitions and other public performances. Five of the girls competed in the 2017 TV3 Talented Kids Reality Show and made it to the finals and represented as Cultural Ambassadors”.
He said he received financial support from America, Germany, NGO Doing Good with the Head Office in Israel and a small Family Foundation Based in Norway.
Mr Odokwei, who is also contesting as an Assembly Member for Osu Kinkawe Electoral Area, said there were lots of problems like sanitation, health, lack of bus station and many other challenges that needed to be addressed and if given the nod, he would address those issues.
