Saboba Assembly holds Townhall meeting

SABOBA (NR) , Nov 12, GNA -  The Saboba District Assembly has held its special Town Hall Meeting at their Community Centre to highlight government policies and give the people the opportunity to air their views.

The Meeting provided them the platform to engage duty bearers to promote transparency and accountability for effective and efficient delivery of public service.

Section 40 of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936) mandates all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAS) to enable residents and other stakeholders to participate effectively in the activities of the Assemblies.

Mr. George Kitingyaab Bingrini the Saboba District Chief Executive in an address expressed the Management’s  gratitude and appreciation to Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Pastoral Conference (TEPPCON) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) for their financial support in organizing the Town Hall Meeting.

Mr. Bingrini said they needed the support of NGOs, Development Partners, the Church and all Religious Organizations, Traditional Authority and above all strong and Vibrant Media and Civil Society to work in concerted manner to deliver the people from the shackles of poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease.

On Development projects of the District, the DCE said they were  constructing children’s ward at Saboba Health Centre at GH¢139,893.00,  completed one CHPs compound at Kpegu at GH¢142,602.60 and initiated and completed the construction of one 4 unit Nurses quarters with ancillary facilities at Demon with District Assemblies Common Funds.

On education he said they were constructing one 3-unit classroom block with ancillaries facilities for Sanguli Roman Catholic (RC) JHS from DDF at cost of GH¢154,116.63.

He said Saboba District Assembly in collaboration with World Vision, RING, SNV and UNICEF over the years declared 138 number of communities as Open Defecation Free (ODF) out of a total of 252 communities and hoped by June 2022, the entire District would be declared ODF.

He said they were rehabilitating the Saboba Town Water Rehabilitation and Expansion project at the cost of GH¢5,539,190.43.

Mr. Bingrini said a total of 200 vials Anti-snake serum was acquired by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Saboba Constituency Mr. Charles Binipom Bintin at the cost of GH¢45, 000.00 to be administered at no cost to victims of snake bites, to ameliorate the  plight of patients suffering from snake bites in the constituency.

He said the MP also supplied 200 dual desks to Ghana Education Service for various schools and additional 200 were also at the manufacturing stage.

He said under the Rural Electrification project, 11 communities were to benefit and be hooked to national grid, naming them as; Kugnani, Bilobibiib, Najakpol, Liwalbu, Kunjuli among others.

He said works on two steel bridges at Kpalba and over Oti River would start as stated by the Minster for Roads during the President’s visit in August, 2019 and announced that the people of Saboba had a fair share of the Government’s Flagship Programmes that were impacting positively and transforming lives and fortunes of the people.

He acknowledged the receipt of a Hearse donated by the Vice President Dr. Mahamud Bawumia to the Saboba Muslim community in particular and the District at large.

He said the Assembly received GH¢867,890.22 as at September as DACF, 2019, MPs common Fund of GH¢243,970.98 was received as at September 2019, with DDF GH¢932, 050.01  as at September 2019. He said the budgeted revenue for 2019 was GH¢137, 627.00 however as at September, the actual revenue generated stood at GH¢25,092.05, which represented 50 percent,  largely due to the conflict in the area.

Touching on the Referendum, he called on the people to advocate and canvass for a massive Yes vote come 17th December, 2019 to amend Article 55 (3), which was an entrenched clause that prohibited political parties from sponsoring Assembly members and the use of political party symbols and canvassing for votes on the platform of political party on the District Level Elections.

Chiefs, Heads of Department and Agencies, Security Agents, Religious Leaders, TEPPON-KAS Management Team, Development Partners among others were present at the Meeting.
