Accra, Nov. 12, GNA - Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawuma on Monday joined veterans, serving soldiers and members of the public to observe the 74th Remembrance Day Service and Wreath Laying ceremony at the Christianburg War Cemetery in Osu.
The Day is observed on November 11, every year, to honour the fallen heroes and heroines of the first and second World Wars as well as soldiers who lost their lives in peacekeeping missions.
Vice President Bawumia laid a wreath on behalf of the President, Government and people of Ghana and exchanged pleasantries with the veterans.
Mr Ian Walker, the British High Commissioner, laid a wreath on behalf of the Commonwealth and Allied countries, Mr Dimitry Suslov, the Russian Ambassador, laid a wreath on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps; and Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa, the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces laid one on behalf of the Armed Forces and security agencies.
Major General C.B Yaache (Rtd), the Board Chairman of the Veterans Administration, laid a wreath on behalf of the veterans while Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona, Osu Mantse, laid a wreath on behalf of all traditional authorities.
The gathering observed a two-minute silence during the sounding of siren on the 11th hour in honour of all the fallen soldiers.
Some veterans, serving soldiers and civilians wore red poppy flowers to remember the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes to bring peace and stability to the world.
