Accra, Nov. 12, GNA – Kwesi Appiah, Head Coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars has said he remains focused on giving out his best to help the team be successful.
After Black Stars shock elimination in the round of 16 at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Tunisia, there have been calls for Coach Appiah to resign or sacked by majority of Ghana’s football entourage.
But according to the Black Stars gaffer he’s not perturbed about calls for his exit but focused on propelling the Blacks Stars in reaching greater heights and believes Ghana’s outing at the last AFCON wasn’t that bad.
“I always do the best I can even though I may not be the best, but I think when given the chance I always make sure I prove a point.
“I personally think we didn’t disgrace ourselves totally at the last AFCON but that was not the objective of every Ghanaian especially when we wanted the cup,’’ Appiah told pressmen at the first day of training of the Black Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium.
When asked about his decision to include Charles Kwabena Akunnor in his technical team, Appiah said, ”he has coached some of the biggest clubs in the country and I also believe that many coaches should be given the opportunity to be with the national especially knowing that I may not be in the position forever”.
Appiah would be at the helm of the Black Stars when they take on the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Thursday in their first qualifier match for the 2021 AFCON.
