Accra, Nov. 11, GNA – Mrs Janet Amerley Esseku, the founding President of the Association of Women in the Media (ASWIM), passed away on Monday, November 11.
Mrs Esseku, who was married to Mr Harona Esseku, a former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, was 85.
She joined the Ghana the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1961 and worked through the ranks to become the Chief Controller of Programmes in-charge of Ghanaian Languages.
Mrs Esseku ended her career with the GBC in 1994.
A statement issued by the President of ASWIM, Mrs Mavis Kitcher, expressed the condolence of the members of the Association to the bereaved family and wished Mrs Esseku a peaceful rest.
ASWIM, an affiliate of the Ghana Journalists Association, was formed in 1981 to forge a united front to champion the cause of female journalists, develop their capacities and skills towards the promotion of gender equity for building a prosperous nation.
It was re-launched in April last year to make it vibrant.
