Accra, July 24, GNA – The Association Community Model Basic School (ACMBS) has disclosed its preparedness to celebrate the excellence of students who undertook the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Mr Theodore Adjetey Adjei, the Headteacher of the School, said this was due to the effort of the teachers to take the candidates through a detailed Curricula as well as the great collaboration and compliance of the students.
He said this during the School’s 2019 “Speech, Prize Giving and Graduation Day” ceremony held in Accra on Tuesday.
He said the School had strived to consistently be among the overall best 10 schools in the La Dadekotopon Municipal Education Office (LaDMEO) and indeed the LaDMEO League Table on the 2018 BECE results placed them on a sixth position within a mean aggregate of 11.41 for the 56 candidates registered.
“Our placement was against the backdrop of a Public School in the midst of heavyweight well-resourced private schools in La,” he said.
For two consecutive years in 2017 and 2018, two students from the School received the President’s Independence Day Awards for brilliant students for excelling at the BECE, he disclosed.
Mr Adjei said the School was preparing to score even higher marks at the subsequent BECE.
Touching on some of the challenges the School faced, he said they needed a new spacious classroom block to ease the congestion at the Primary Department.
Other challenges were the contention with astronomical utility bills, absence of night security to watch over the School, inadequate computers and lack of sport jerseys and equipment.
The Head teacher, therefore, appealed for support from government and abled bodies to enable the School to deliver on its mandate.
Miss Winnifred Fianko, the Outgoing Prefect of the School and a graduant, said even though the previous batch of students scored good marks with the least grade being ‘20’, her batch was going to score higher grades to raise the image of the school.
She, however, appealed to government and benevolent institutions and individuals including members of the Parent Teacher Association to support the School with a Computer and Science laboratories and a mower to keep the students safe from harmful reptiles.
Mrs Gifty Twum Ampofo, the Minister of Education in charge of Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (TVET), advised parents to stop making their children who were not academically smart feel less important and help them to identify their interest and talents.
She advised the graduands awaiting their BECE results not to spend their times unnecessarily on phone, social media and television, but rather use it to learn petty skills such as weaving, sewing, and bakery from friends and elders.
“TVET is the key to our success and our grooming. The longer the children stay on social media, the higher they are exposed to the evils of social media,” she said.
Mr Vincent Sowah Odotei, the Member of Parliament for the Dadekotopon Constituency said plans were underway to commence the establishment of five more model schools from September 2019, in the Constituency to enable children in the area to have access to quality affordable basic education.
He said children of up to 17 years of age were entitled to have free National Health Insurance registration in the constituency.
The Junior High School graduated 84 students, and the Kindergarten graduated 30 pupils into mainstream basic education.
The Award categories included best students in each subject of the Curricula, most promising student and most serviceable student.
The day was celebrated with a number of activities from the pupils and students such as drama, choreography, singing and dancing.
The School’s Kindergarten Department has 62 pupils, the Primary Department has 434 pupils while the Junior High School has 237 students, bringing the total student population to 733.
