Ho, June 27, GNA - Sampson Godegbe, 34, an Auto mechanic and driver has appeared before court for driving carelessly and knocking down a student of University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS) in Ho.
Godegbe, was charged with careless and inconsiderate driving, negligently causing harm and driving without license.
He pleaded guilty to negligently causing harm but not guilty to other charges and was granted bail.
Godegbe is billed to make his next appearance on July 15, this year.
Police Inspector Agnes Ahiable, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mrs Pricilla Dikro Ofori that on January 3, 2019 at about 1930 hours, the accused was in charge of Toyota Carina E saloon car with registration number GW 8183-Y heading towards Ho from Dzodze.
She said upon reaching a section of the road between Kings Energy filling station and Ho Teaching Hospital, on Ho-Kpetoe road, the accused drove the car without care and attention to other road users.
The prosecuting officer said as a result of that the vehicle veered off the road to the pedestrian walk way and knocked down the victim who was from the opposite direction.
The prosecution said in the accused's statement, he alleged that he was trying to avoid a collision with a vehicle from the opposite direction which was overtaking another vehicle and has veered onto his lane and this caused him to veer off the road, resulting in the accident.
She said the victim was seriously injured and rushed to Ho Teaching Hospital for treatment and was admitted due to fracture on her leg and deep cut she sustained from the accident.
The prosecution said the victim was later treated and discharged.
Police investigations further revealed that the accused was driving the vehicle without license at the time of the incident.
