Accra, June 25, GNA - The Black Stars of Ghana started the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with two all result against West African neighbors, Benin in their first Group F game at the Ismailia Stadium on Tuesday.
With high hopes of ending the 37 year old trophy draught, the Stars were given a rude awakening with an early goal from Micheal Pote in the second minute of the game.
This was after he rounded up the defense of the Stars, before slotting in the opener.
Skipper Andre Ayew equalized for Ghana in the 34th minute, with Jordan Ayew increasing the tally for Ghana in the 42nd minute to end the first half.
On resumption the Stars suffered a major casualty after defender John Boye was sent off in the 54th minute for engaging in delay tactics.
Benin capitalized on this and mounted pressure on Ghana in search of the equalizer and this worked out as Pote scraped home another goal to level up for them.
The Stars searched for the winner but failed as the game ended with each side picking a point.
