Kumasi, April 2, GNA – The Manhyia Divisional Police Command has stepped-up efforts to maintain sanity and reduce crime in the Central Business District of Kumasi.
This is to help ensure that people go about their daily activities in the area without fear.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwaku Buah, the Divisional Commander, told the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, that constant security checks in the central market and its environs, have been heightened to control criminal activities.
He said regular educational campaigns by the Police in the market and on radio stations, have also helped kept the traders in the market alive on personal security issues.
ACP Buah said frequent security patrols had put some fear in the pick-pockets and day light robbers as well as petty thieves, who now found it difficult to operate.
He advised the market women and petty traders not to display their wares on the streets but instead, relocate to the approved market places to do their business.
“Selling by the road side is not safe and you could be run over by a moving vehicle. You must comply with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) bye-laws, to avoid being caught up with the law,” he told the traders.
Madam Akosua Akyaa Animwaa, a second-hand cloth dealer, speaking to GNA confirmed that security had been improved and there was now sanity in the central business area.
She said thieves were now afraid to harass them due to the presence of the police.
