Kumasi, March 18, GNA - The 'Asafo-Fante-New-Town-Amakom' (AFA) Association, a civil society organisation based in Washington, United States (US), has donated hundred dual desks to the Awere M/A Basic School in Kumasi.
The gesture is to help to advance academic cause of the school by improving the state of its infrastructure.
Mr William Ofori Antwi, also known as 'Warrant Officer', President of the Association, said educational development was a shared responsibility.
For that reason, he said, stakeholders, especially Ghanaians living in the diaspora should take the initiative in providing books, furniture and other educational materials to educational institutions in the country.
The AFA President hinted that the donation was not going to be the last, but then, the Association had planned to offer more help in raising the quality of education.
Nana Amar, an old student of the school and a member of AFA, encouraged the authorities to plant more trees and flowers in order to enhance the scenic beauty and environment of the school.
Ms Rosemond Peprah Antwi, Headteacher of the school, said discipline was one of their hallmarks, adding that it remained one of the reasons for the academic successes of institution in recent time.
Nana Kwabena Kra II, Mawerehene of Asafo in Kumasi, in whose vicinity the school is located, thanked AFA for their patriotism.
