Sunyani, Feb. 22, GNA – The largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to the Police to arrest and prosecute trouble makers before, during and after the Party’s impending Presidential primaries to elect a flag-bearer for the Election 2020.
The Party reminded the Police that they were in-charge of security and therefore, must arrest any private security operatives that would be seen around the polling stations during, after voting and vote counting.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NDC said the Party had gathered intelligence that some miscreants intended to foment rouble and called on the Police to be proactive and deal decisively with wrong doers, assuring that the leadership would not shield or defend any trouble maker.
He explained that the NDC cherished its internal democracy and had put in place measures to ensure level playing fields for all candidates contesting the elections.
Mr Marfo said all was set for the elections in the region as the leadership of the Party had dispatched electoral materials, and would soon be deployed to all the various polling stations in the region.
The NDC Regional Chairman said a total of 27,853 delegates across the 2,979 branches in the 29 constituencies of the Brong-Ahafo Region were expected to cast their ballots.
He explained voting would not take place in the NDC regional office in Sunyani, saying all regional executives were expected to go and vote at their various branches.
Mr Nyamekye-Marfo insisted voting was only meant for delegates, and advised the Party sympathisers, supporters and other observers to conduct themselves responsibly.
Seven stalwarts are ready for +the face off to receive the endorsement of delegates in the election, to be held at the constituency level across the nation.
They are Mr Goosie Tanoh, a businessman, Former President John Dramani Mahama, Professor Joshua Alabi, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies and Mr Alban Sumani K. Bagbin, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
The rest are Mr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, a Former Minister of Education and Trade, Mr Sylvester Mensah, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority and Alhaji Nurudeen Iddrisu, a business man.
