Accra, Feb. 13, GNA – Mr Justice Clemence Honyenugah, an Appeal Court Judge, hearing the case involving Dr Stephen Opuni and one other, has urged journalists on the beat to utilise the certified copies of proceedings for their reports to be circumspect.
Justice Honyenugah, who is sitting as an additional High Court Judge, cautioned that those who would misreport the proceedings, thereafter, would be dealt with according to the law, and there would be no mercy.
Some newspapers, he explained, had quoted him wrongly and had attributed certain statements he did not make to him. “The language was bad too”.
The Judge, who gave the caution before the proceedings, commenced on Tuesday, emphasised: “If you want to report on the case, you need to get a copy of the proceedings from the registry to enable you to report accurately”.
Both the Director of Public Prosecutions and the defence lawyers expressed their support for the judge’s position.
Dr Opuni, a former CEO of COCOBOD and Mr Seidu Agongo, the CEO of Agricult Ghana Limited, are facing trial on 27 charges, including defrauding by false pretences, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, corruption by public officer and contravention of the Public Procurement Act.
They have both pleaded not guilty to the charges and are each on a GH¢300,000.00 self-recognisance bail.
