Kwahu Atibie (E/R), Feb. 8, GNA- The Atibieman Association in the United State of America (USA), made up of citizens of Kwahu Atibie residing in the USA, has donated over 20 streelights worth 1,500 dollars to the Atibie community as part of efforts to provide adequate security for Atibie residents.
Presenting the items on behalf of the Association, Mr William Kwame Abra, a member of the Association, said it is their aim to support the development of the community.
He said during a recent visit of some of the members of the Association to Atibie, they found out that many of the areas of the town were in total darkness at night.
He said this was because most of the streetlights in the area were faulty, hence the effort to provide the bulbs to replace those faulty bulbs to lighten up the streets in Atibie at night.
Mr Abra said when the members were in Atibie, there were reports of attacks on the people especially the student nurses at the Atibie Midwifery and Training School due to the darkness of the area.
He said the Association has plans to construct boreholes in the community to curb the scarcity of water in the area.
Mr Abra said it is also the intension of the Association to provide scholarships to the vulnerable students in Atibie, construct a community library and classroom blocks for the community and provide a toilet facilities to help reduce open defecation in the area.
He called on other citizens of the area who have not yet joined the association to do so and contribute to the development of Atibie and the surrounding communities.
Mr Frank Ofosu Kissi, the Assembly Member for the Atibie Electorial Area, who received the items on behalf of the community, thanked the Association for the gesture.
