Accra, Jan. 22, GNA - Mr Kwasi Amoako Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways, has said arrangements have been made for the Ministry to take over all outstanding cocoa roads in the country for completion.
He said the move was to address challenges associated with abandoned projects, delayed projects by contractors, shoddy works and other pitfalls to ensure there was value for money in road infrastructure.
Announcing this in Accra at the Meet Press series, the Minister said the Ministry has completed the Joint Border Posts at Noepe for Ghana and Togo and became operational on December 3, 2018.
Touching on the Ministry’s achievement, he said 18 weighbridge stations across the country have been constructed to reduce overloading of heavy goods vehicle, adding that the initiative has decreased overloading to about 6.45 per cent.
He said the Western Region Oil Enclave roads are being executed to support the operations of the Gas Plant, stating that the Alabokazo Ekwei Tikobi Number One (53km) is 99 per cent complete while the construction of road along pipeline including Amazure Bridge had been completed.
He said the Pokuase interchange was 30 per cent completed, improvement of the roundabout between Ejisu and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, which was also 40 per cent complete.
He said the construction of the Tema Motorway roundabout into a three tier interchange with Japanese grants commenced early 2018 and the project was 24 per cent completed.
The Minister said the construction of two lane underpass to link Spintex and East Legon in the Greater Accra was completed.
He said the LEKMA road construction project was terminated and given to a different contractor of which work would begin soon.
In terms of road safety interventions, he said the Ministry has installed and maintained street lights on Pantang-Aburi and Mallam-kasoa highways and other streets across the country.
