Hotopo (WR), May 28, GNA - The Hotopo community in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region over the weekend displayed a colourful tradition of enthroning a new leader to propel community engagement and development.
The community after the death of Nana Wenwen III, has been without a traditional leader for many years and tradition demanded the selection of a new the chief.
The new chief known as Nana Wenwem IV and in private life as Mr Thomas Kwofie led the members of the community to perform final funeral of the late chief(Nana Wenwem III.
Prior to funeral and Thanksgiving service for the late Chief, the elders of the community, the royal family and people from all walks of life gathered at the Hotopo palace to crown the new king amidst music and traditional dance.
The Traditional initiations then followed at the durbar ground at the Hotopo community park where other chiefs and important personality gathered to witness the crowning of their divisional chief, Nana Wenwen IV.
Nana Wenwen IV who swore the oath of allegiance and responsibility to his division promised to promote the welfare of his community to improve the living conditions in the area.
He said education and social infrastructure were key to his development drive.
Nana Wenwen IV said already he had engaged the assembly’s engineer on the deplorable roads linking the community to other adjourning towns which impedes trading activities and other such engagement that could raise the living standard of the people.
“On education, I together with the assembly man have started some extra classes and mock examination for students in the final year…..education is the key to development and I will not relent in pushing for quality education for the future of this community.”
Nana Wenwen IV therefore called on his subjects, to forge ahead in unity, eschew traits that could undermine the development of the community but rather rekindle the communal spirit that would spur the growth and prosperity of the Hotopo division.
