Accra, April 5, GNA - Michael Afranie, a trader, was on Thursday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for attempted robbery and assault.
He was said to have attempted to rob and assaulted one Eunice Asante on March 31, at Korle Bu in Accra.
Michael pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded by the court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, to reappear on April 19.
Police Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Eunice Asante, is a store keeper at a shop opposite Korle Bu Medical School, while Michael is a trader living at Chorkor.
He said on March 31, at about 1100 hours, Michael went to the complainant’s shop and pleaded with her to charge his phone for him to enable him to withdraw money from his wallet.
He said whiles the complainant was trying to put the phone on charge, the accused pushed her down and folded a napkin in an attempt to gag her but she resisted.
Mr Dosoo said the accused in his bid overpower the complainant’s resistance bit her left hand and left cheek and subjected her to beatings.
The complainant shouted for help and two witnesses in the case appeared at the scene and found Michael holding the complainant’s neck whilst she was on the ground.
They rescued the complainant and called for police assistance.
The prosecution said Michael was arrested and during investigations, the napkin was retrieved.
He also admitted the offence in his caution statement.
