Wa, April 5, GNA – The Acting Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, has urged the media to project the Region positively in order to attract investments since government resources alone are inadequate to stimulate the needed economic transformation.
He appealed to all stakeholders especially those in the inky fraternity to travel the extra mile to market the region so as to woo investors to compliment efforts by government to improve socio-economic wellbeing of the people.
The Minister who made the appeal during an interaction with journalists at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Wa described the media as strategic partners in development as they were the ‘Fourth Estate of the Realm’ and had the power to project the region into the international arena.
The brief interaction was meant to pat journalists for their consistent news reports about development issues in the region and foster a more fruitful working relationship towards improved reports.
Mr Issahaku urged the journalists to continue to do more to market the many untapped investment opportunities in the region in order to attract potential investors into the region that is blessed with rich tourism potential, vast arable land for agriculture purposes, efficient human resource base and a peaceful atmosphere among others.
But, the Minister said, the Upper West Region faced the risk of remaining as the poorest one if those potentials were not harnessed to attract investors.
He said the RCC was always prepared to receive advice and suggestions from the media on issues bordering on development and welfare of the people.
“It is only through information sharing that we can collectively work to address the development needs of our people”, he stressed.
The media was appreciative of the interaction and promised to step up development journalism reporting to help project the region.
