Sunyani, April 05, GNA-The timely intervention of the Drobo Police on Tuesday averted a bloody clash between the youth of the town and those of Japekrom in the Jaman South Municipality of Brong-Ahafo Region.
Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer who told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, attributed the cause of the clash to a protracted chieftaincy dispute between the two communities.
He said on Tuesday, April 03, 2018, at 1100 hours about 10 unidentified young men armed with short guns boarded a pick up vehicle with registration number GW2777W driven by one Clement Kyeremeh to Drobo and pulled down a fence wall around a story building belonging to one Wilson Benneh of Drobo without any provocation.
Chief Inspector Oppong said the unidentified young men after the offence jumped unto the vehicle and drove back to Japekrom.
He said the Police got hint of it and rushed to the scene but missed the perpetrators and found six empty shells of cartridges on the ground.
Chief Inspector Oppong said Police on their way back to office came across a road block mounted at a place leading to the Drobo market by an irate youth of Drobo who were marching towards Japekrom to retaliate.
He said the Police attempted to calm them down but due to their enormous number they refused to cooperate.
Chief Inspector Oppong said the Police then called for reinforcement that was led by Chief Superintendent Ofosu Gyeabour, the Drobo Divisional Commander who advised them to exercise restraint and allow the law to take its course.
He said there was no casualty and no arrest had been made and appealed to the youth of Drobo not to take the law into their own hands to cause any destruction.
